"You Have Eaten What?!"

I am known to utter that well-known "TGIF" acronym quite often (every single Friday!); but I have never meant it as much as I do now/today!

This past week has been beyond exhausting, to say the least - being awake and moving around for about seventeen hours each day is definitely draining; but at least I am enjoying all of my classes (my professors are quite hilarious this semester, it's great!) and my dance practices.

Due to the extreme busyness (as usual) and adjusting to my new schedule, I had to put off baking for this week - so unfortunately, I do not have a new baked good to post about for today. But instead of forgoing a post for a long period of time, I thought that I would participate in something that has been quite popular in the blogging world lately: The Vegan 100 List.

Yes, I do realize that literally everyone in the blogging world is posting/has posted about this list (whether it be the Vegan 100 List or the Omnivore 100 List) - but I still wanted to participate because no two lists have the same results - this is what makes each person's list so fun and intriguing to read (at least, in my opinion, the lists are fun and intriguing).

Just in case you forgot what the rules are for these lists, I provided them again, below (even though you probably just finished reading the rules, on someone else's blog, a few minutes ago, haha):

1) Copy this list into your own blog, including these instructions.

2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.

3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.

4) Post a comment here once you’ve finished and link your post back to this one.

5) Pass it on!

So without further ado, I present to you...

**VeggieGirl's Vegan 100 List**

(Or, as I personally like to call it, the VeggieGirl's "You Have Eaten What?!" List):

85. Moussaka - I highly recommend this recipe

86. Sprouted grains or seeds

87. Macaroni and “cheese” - another "never again" food, since I developed a serious taste aversion to it (I will spare you the details)

99. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee

100. Raw cookie dough - hooray for vegan batter always being egg-free/salmonella-free!

So there you have it - a glimpse into what VeggieGirl has eaten over the course of her 20-year existence. I found that once I became a vegan, I also became significantly more adventurous with trying new foods; and I hope to continue to doing so, as the years go on (since it makes eating, as well as cooking and baking, much more interesting and fun).

I plan on doing some baking this weekend (hopefully it will happen!), so expect to see a new baked good from me very, very soon. Until then, I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing, stress-free weekend :0)

hehehe that pic of you at the fridge is adorable :D

you know what - I have actually never heard of this "Vegan 100" list or seen it posted anywhere!! weird! I've seen a lot of bloggers do the tagging, name-six-weird-things-about-yourself or whatever, but this looks different and fun :) I am going to go post a blog entry with my list! two entries in one day, alriggghhhttt :)

17 hours a day?! ack! you gotta make sure you sleep a bit more sometimes! but with your fabulously healthy diet I'm sure you are handling it all great. this might sound kind of weird, but I'd love to read more posts about your daily schedule and daily eats that fuel you through your marathon dance training... so cool you dance :D

alrighty I'm done with my novel now, lol. have a great weekend!

I love this list! It makes me realize there are so many different foods out there that I still need to try.

Quick question, how do you make your green smoothies? I've been wanting to try one but I can't find any good recipes.

Foodeater said...

Are you seriously telling me you've never had a tofu scramble? I thought it was some kind of immutable law that all vegans eat this on a regular and recurring basis! :)

loveofoats said...

Hope you have a great weekend :) I love this list, esp the pb&j, but where's the oats haha... I especially loved how Jamaican coffee was on the list! You must try it (if you are a coffee fan)...

Steph said...

I'm always amazed at how you manage your super busy schedule. Even though we don't get to see any of your delicious baked goods this week, it was really nice to get to know you better! Can I ask how you always get such quick updates to our blogs?

Great list! Glad you're enjoying your classes :)

shellyfish said...

I really need to do this (I keep saying this, but haven't yet!)

I can't believe you haven't had samosas & dahl! Come to France and I'll make some for you post haste! :)

Virginia said...

Gasp! I can't believe you haven't had Chickpea Cutlets! What kind of vegan are you?!?! =)

talieworld said...

Thanks! I'll post about it when I make it. :)

Hi VeggieGirl! I love these lists :) I did the "Omnivore's Hundred" - http://healthyums.blogspot.com/2008/09/omnivores-hundred.html

Clumbsy Cookie said...

This is the first vegetarian 100 list I see, I have seen alot, but omnivorous. I'm impressed with the amount of things you have tryed!
You really had a busy week girl, hope you can bake soon!

Dawn said...

Are all these vegan? Haggis is vegan? Have seen the beef one and wasn't too thrilled with that one, so I am more thrilled with the vegan one, since I am trying to go all vegan (just fish), eventually (I hope).
I agree with you on the green smoothies--I have one every morning. Cute pic chicklet!!! :-)

A.Cook said...

Ooh I'm so glad you posted the list!! I also find it really interesting to see what others put down. Have a great weekend and make sure to rest up!

lighterportions said...

Haha awesome, this one definitely looks a little more palette pleasing than the omnivore list ;)

Kristen's Raw said...

Hope you're getting lots of rest :)

Katy said...

You've never had Tings??? They are one of my favorite snacks! (And I'm pretty sure they're gluten free).
Hope your schedule slows down a little!

caretoeat said...

The vegan/omnivore 100 is news to me sister! I guess because I don't read vegan blogs, being a carnivore and all.
Except yours, of course, which I love!
What a cute pic of you in front of the fridge. :)

teeni said...

I enjoyed reading your list. You know I may have to do both this one and the omnivore one. LOL.

Peabody said...

You should try fried plantain...it's good.

Adam said...

Nice list, I didn't count... but you nailed down most of them already. Pretty good for only 20 years :)

I'm going to have to make Borscht for you sometime... I hope you like beets.

Andrea said...

It must be said again - that fridge picture is way too cute! I've never seen the list either but what a great concept. There were a couple things I'm surprised you haven't tried before, but I agree that when I became a vegetarian, I got a lot more adventurous with my food and I suppose that will continue as I lean into veganism. Happy weekend!

blueberryhil said...

I love these lists! I think it's great that veganism has helped you to be more adventerous with food. It seems that when people become vegetarian or vegan, it either leaves them in a food rut or opens up whole new worlds of food possibilities...I love hearing stories about the latter type of experience, and your blog is always full of them.

blueberryhil said...

And oddly enough, I think I've eaten a lot more things on the vegan list than the omni list!

Katie said...

I always think those 100 lists are so interesting. I look forward to your upcoming baked goods.

monsappetit said...

What a fun post! Thanks :)

Have a fantastic weekend! I hope you get to relax and do some baking!

Ruby Red Vegan said...

haha, i actually think the 100 lists are kind of boring, but you made yours really really interesting! i do love the picture of you in front of the fridge, and i gotta say i love that you have eaten whipped cream from the can! and yay for #100 -- salmonella-free cookie dough. i cringe still when my fellow college students talk about how much they looove to buy raw cookie dough at the store and eat it. bleeegh. no raw eggs for us, thanks. :)

Celine said...

cute pic too!

Sophie said...

What a fun post :). Wow, my palate is so narrow! I've heard so much about Durian but am too scared to try it! How was it?! I've heard that some hotels in Asia don't allow it because it's stinky :P lol.

Ginny said...

awesome! you should definitely try kimchi...So delicious! :)

eatingbender said...

Glad your exhausting week is coming to a close and you can enjoy the weekend!!

Hehe, love the picture, VeggieGirl - scandalous!!

I also love the fact that not one item on your list is crossed out - a very adventurous vegan eater, indeed! Some of the foods I have never heard of, so if you ever DO try them, let me know 1) what the heck they are and 2) what you think! Aloo gobi is a good example...wha? Haha - but I can tell you that boba tea is AMAZING! My friend and I used to go to a boba tea shop almost every day after high school. Ah, memories...

I can't WAIT to see your next baked good, especially after the teaser you sent my way the other day - ahhh I can't stand the suspense!!

Have a great weekend!

christie i. said...

You have tried foods I have never even heard of!

I look forward to your forthcoming baking!

Take it easy this weekend!

Sarah said...

haha, whipped cream straight from the can! I pretty much do this on a DAILY basis ; P

Like the picture. We used to have Marmite when I was a kid. Horrible stuff. Hope you manage to get some rest from your busy schedule.

River said...

I'm too chicken (or maybe too chickpea cutlet?) to take this list!

There are so many things I haven't tried yet that my list would have very few things in bold!

Totally cute picture! :)

Erica said...

I love the pic of you and the fridge- too cute! You had no cross offs! Good for you! I haven't tried a lot of these foods (I need to get off my butt and do so). Glad the classes are going well- enjoy the weekend :)

Vegan_Noodle said...

Oh my Liz, I do hope you get some rest and relaxation time this weekend... you deserve it! Plus I know you miss your baking :-)

I enjoyed reading you vegan 100 list!

This is an impressive list, I don't know half of the items.

Melissa said...

Love the photo, so cute. And the black outfit is so NYC. Wow you have quite the palate!

vegan addict said...

Fun list! I too, became much more adventurous in my eating habits once I went vegan. All the better!

And yes, I was in Cleveland. I didn't know you lived there... I'm sorry! I would have loved to visit/meet with you. Tim grew up in Cleveland, so we will undoubtedly go back to see family again soon!

We almost went to the new vegan restaurant in Akron, but time slipped away.

jenngirl said...

great post! glad you are enjoying school so far, always a good thing :)

you definitely have an adventurous palette, i am definitely intrigued by many of the things on that list!

shelby said...

hehe I love the photo!

You have tried so much, I would be embarrased to put up this list, I haven't tried even 1/3 of these things!

Toni said...

Oh this is SO fun!

And I completely agree, "Fast Food French Fries" are disgusting.

...also I LOVE that fridge pic of you, that's hilarious ♥

(p.s. I'm definitely thinking about throwing protein powder in things now... I never would have before, but it might help me get some extra grams in there. What brand do you use? Have you tried many different ones?)

ttfn300 said...

I've been seeing these and thinking about doing them--just wasn't sure which to do! I only had ~40 on the omnivore's list, but at least half on this one!! Love the accompanying pic!

With all your activities, how do you find time to be the first one to post on everyone's blogs?? amazing!!

Emiline said...

MMM, I could go for some cider and a glazed donut right now.

alaina said...

thank you very much! i like your blog too :)

haha, i thought *I* was the only vegan to never have tried the chickpea cutlets!

Great list!

I love kimchi... so fresh and SO good for you! You should give it a whirl next time you're at a Korean restaurant.

And you simply must try a knish... classic Jewish comfort food :) Eat it hot with mustard, of course!

Thanks for the welcome!

So sorry to hear about the Marmite - it's like putting your hand in the fire, you know it'll be awful but there's that little part of you that says "Oh why not?"

Animal-Friendly said...

The list really has been a great thing- everyone's version is their own and you get to learn about other people's culinary experiences! Becoming a vegan has also made me more adventurous when it comes to food and I'm sooo thankful for that because I've experienced so much more than I would have otherwise.

i'm glad you like your professors even if life is super busy. i hope you had a relaxing weekend though!

Marmite and vegemite are yum! Okay, that might be because I've grown up with the stuff so maybe it's my taste buds that are crazy!

Aimee said...

It looks like you have been open to trying a lot of different Vegan foods. My mom drinks Green Smoothies (more like Green juice from her juicer) all the time, but I haven't been able to convince myself to drink something green. But my mom has a lot of health problems and drinking green juice made in her juicer has helped her health a lot!!

ha ha ha that is EXACTLY how I feel about eating cookie dough - "I can eat as much as I want! it's vegan so I won't get sick!"

...except from how sick I get from eating so much of it...

Nick said...

That is a darn crazy list, good luck with all that your doing although it seems like you'll barely have time to read these comments!

I hope you get rested up from all your busy-ness!

It's always interesting seeing foods that others have tried. I've found that because of my dietary restrictions, I too have become more adventurous as far as what new things I'm willing to try.

I posted the GF maple oat bread recipe today!

It's funny--people actually ask me what I eat--as if there is nothing besides meat. Never mind the thousands of veggies, fruits, and grains!
