I love your videos :) Yay, Dawn!

Still haven't tried protein powder... I really should :P Glad to hear it's working for you. For me - healthy fats are what work. ::shrug:: to each her own!

You look adorable, and happy weekend!

Yay, another episode! Great Product review!

Great product review. I haven't been doing enough strength training to warrant protein powder addition to my diet, but I will def. consider this vegan source if I do so in the future. Happy veganniversary too!

sarah said...

i loved the magic 8 ball addition---i used to have one when i was younger and i loved it!

HAPPY VEGANANNIVERSARY!

and thank you so much for all your support this week (and always!) it means so much to me and I am so glad that I have you as a friend.

Have a great weekend!

You crack me up with the Magic 8-Ball! It was so funny!

You also cracked me up with the "liquid nitrogen" thing! It's VeggieGirl Comedy TV! :)

How cool! You and your dad are Sun Warrior protein buddies! I have tried a different kind of brown rice protein and it really was almost vomit-inducing, so it's good to hear this one isn't. Thanks for the great review!

Happy veganniversary!!

haya (living and learning) said...

i love your videos too! thanks for doing them.

i am pro-protein as well. i'll definitely mention this product the next time someone questions why i have to get protein in powder form.

2 years! congratulations. that's an accomplishment.

Becca said...

Great review.

i'm glad you found that more protein works better for you. Its interesting how some things work for some people and not for others.

Happy "veganniversary!"

Ash said...

Another great episode!

I will definitely have to look into this protein powder. I had to give up my last brand because it had pineapple in it (one of my sensitivities) and I'm missing my morning smoothies! I'll have to look for the other hemp brand that you like as well...

Happy vegan-iversary! Have a great weekend

Thanks for the review, and Happy Blogiversary!

That is one (or two) massive container of protein powder! Glad that it tastes good and works for you, because man, it would suck to not like it and waste it all. I've never tried brown rice protein powder before, so it would be interesting to try. Thanks for the review :)

VEGAN TICKLES said...

Great reviews. Makes me want to order the powder.

Andrea [bella eats] said...

Happy Veganniversary! How exciting! Thanks for the protein powder review. I've been thinking about trying a brown rice protein powder because I love brown rice pasta so much, and haven't been happy with the soy protein powder I've been using in my smoothies. :)

Kristi said...

Hi Veggiegirl! This is my first comment for you and I wanted to tell you that I love veggiegirl tv! You are awesome!

RunToFinish said...

I've always wondered about protein powder..i had some in the past and the taste just made me think ick...so I never tried it again.

Does eating like a jar of PB a day count for healthy fats and protein. ;)

Megan said...

oh my gosh veggie girl. i am SO happy you put this review up!! I have mentioned to a lot of people that I've been looking for a new protein powder to use, but the only ones I've found that aren't full of chemicals arent vegan (and I'm trying to go in that direction with my diet these days) or they taste SO gross, which makes them not even worth using. I'm on the Sun Warrior website right now ordering a chocolate and a vanilla! yayyy!

p.s. happy veganniversary :)

talesofexpansion said...

yessss, it's the most highly anticipated tv show of the week!! thanks for another great one :-)
your magic 8 ball had me giggling up a storm. i had one of those when i was little and it was my favorite thing in the world ... for about an hour until all the answers started to repeat, haha

Animal-Friendly said...

Thanks for the product review! I really want to start upping my protein this summer with protein shakes, so I'm definitely considering this protein powder (even though it only comes in GIANT tubs).

Congrats on your veganniversary :)

Erica said...

Happy Anniversary!

Sooooooooo....I tried the powder today. It was def much better than the other rice protein (yes, Veggiegirl was SO right). I had it with milk and blackberries. Still a SLIGHT bit chalky for me. In terms of ingredients, I think it is the best natural/real product out there, but I think I may end up going the egg protein route. I really appreciate you turning me on to it though!

SO with you on the benefits of protein! It has made a HUGE change in my tummy!

As always- LOVE veggiegirl tv.

Any weekend plans?

Nicole said...

oh darn, I really wanted to see your Sun Warrior review and it says the video is no longer available. Let me know if anyone else is having this problem:(

Laci said...

Hi Liz!
Aw I <3 your sense of humor, sort of sarcastic but not too negitive- I laughed out loud at the 8 ball! :) Thanks for the great product review and sharing all the personal. raw foodie info. I always thought veganism was a huge step (um, most americans follow horrendoes diets even compared to vegans who purchase alot of organic processed stuff! :P) and I admire yours with the raw lifestyle... what made you want to go in that direction? :0 I drink nutivia hemp protien shakes (but not daily) which seem pretty natural, I haven't seen that brown rice powder around. Hooray for veggiegirl TV, I always look forward to this after a long week of school every Friday girl! :D Enjoy your weekend, happy vegananniversery! (Do I smell a raw sweet potatoe pie with a puffin crust?) Haha, go veganism! :)

Hayley said...

Happy Veganniversary! I have to try this protein powder out. The rice protein I use now is alright, but it's not the greatest. I just love how it only contains rice and vanilla. But yours sounds just as natural, and even tastier. Thanks for all of the great recommendations VeggieGirl. You keep me eating healthy and exciting new foods!

Peanut Butter and Jenny said...

ahh haha the eight ball prop made me laugh so hard! and you always have the cutest little bracelet accesories. Thank you so much for the fabulous review girl and making the all important point that what's good for SOME people isn't good for EVERYONE.. but i agree, cant beat that protein =).

Can't wait for episode 9 girl!!

Happy Vegaversary! I just celebrated my one year on Valentines day. Yay vegans!

Great product review. I always check and make sure there is no liquid nitrogen in my protein powder before buying it as well ;)

I forgot to mention this to you in your last post but I really like the bracelets you wear. The green one was totally cute and this red sparkly number you were wearing in episode 8 was very fun!

So totally random but I have the same type of container that you have on your microwave.

Maybe I should up my protein since I'm so sore from running. What do you think? I'm not trying to build muscle but I don't think more protein would hurt. I'm trying out this Vega stuff, I'll see how I feel after drinking a shake a day for a few days.

I just wanted to thank you for posting on my blog. It really means a lot to me and makes me feel really welcome into this strange, new and amazing world of blogging.

Veggiegirl, you're the best!

Cheers,
Sarah

This is one of the most helpful reviews I have ever seen. I have been very frustrated in the quest to find a protein powder that tastes good and is natural. You don't want to invest $ and find out it is awful. Maybe you could find the best running watch and review is for me ? :)

Thanks again, have a wonderful weekend!

Very nice review Veggiegirl!!
I saw protein powder but never used before, now I know more about it :)

((( Happy Happy Happy Veganniversary!! )))

Steph said...

Cool product review! I'm actually writing a paper right now about dietary protein and bone health (boring!.. haha). Most people eat way more than the recommended amount anyway. In general, higher protein intakes were better for bone health (but obviously not excessive). Plus, adverse effects of protein on bone health usually occurs with inadequate calcium and you're so careful with all your nutritional needs, you probably have all your vitamins and minerals!

Melody Polakow said...

I'm curious what the actual nutritional value is of the protein powder.. how many calories, grams of fat, grams of protein, fiber.. Brown rice in itself is really not that high in protein, so I really wonder what the numbers are here.

I'm going to go goolge the info.. don't feel like you have to answer my questions.. just more thinking aloud..

Yay for two years vegan!

VeggieGirl,

So, I am totally behind on reading blogs, and tonight when Chris and I were walking our dogs, he mentioned that he had watched VeggieGirl episode 8, and I was like, "...Huh? YOU DID NOT WATCH IT BEFORE ME!" Yes, he did. How funny is that? My husband loves VeggieGirl too. :)

Thank you so much for the product review. I got an email saying the samples are on their way. I cannot wait to try it, especially after hearing your review.

On the protein thing, that's cool how you're not so sore anymore. I hear/read so many different things regarding protein intake. Guess we just have to figure out what works best for each of us. I rarely eat meat, and I just feel I need more protein. Powders are a good source for me - I know a lot of people argue they're not "real food", but if I use one with all natural ingredients, what's the problem? I see none. Besides, I'd rather have a big protein packed shake than a piece of turkey or something. I was always more of a milkshake girl. :)

What a great review! I love it!

Your up and coming vegan anniversary is so exciting!!! I would love to hear your vegan story and what made you decide to make that huge commitment. I'd also love to hear the benefits you have found living that lifestyle and also some of the challenges.

You are a great example and motivator for those living that lifestyle, and also to people like me who haven't made the full vegan commitment, but are taking baby steps in that direction :)

You are great Liz!

Hi Veggie Girl!

I'm so happy you reviewed the Sun Warrior protein powder because I saw it on the www.veganbodybuilding.com forums, and I've been wanting to try it. I currently have a container of multi source vegan protein powder, but it's awful. I'm also trying to eat more than 1gm of protein per pound of body weight to build muscle, and I also weightlift.

If you haven't been to www.veganbodybuilding.com, I highly suggest it! The forums are such a great resource and everyone is so friendly. Three of the guys (including the founder, Robert Cheeke) are representing vegans in a bodybuilding contest in April. They are selling the Sun Warrior protein (and giving away a vegan bodybuilding t-shirt with it!) as a fundraiser for their competition at http://www.veganproteins.com/vegan-protein-t-shirt-fundraiser.html in case you or anyone you know is interested in helping them out. I just ordered the vanilla based on your review from their site.

Anyway, good luck with the muscle building, and good for you for knowing what's best for your body. Happy 2nd veganniversary!

Sue

Happy belated veganniversary! TGH and I are just beginning our plant-based diets. It has been a couple of weeks already but we were kind of headed in this direction anyway since we had been mostly vegetarian. So our diets are vegan now at least (the rest of our lives are not so I won't call us vegans). That was a good and fair product review. I'm glad that one of the rice protein powders actually tastes good. I didn't know your dad also used it, but I'm glad to see he is making healthy decisions about his diet. So many men don't. Anyway, yay for another episode of VeggieGirll TV and thanks to Dawn for the idea!

Happy Veganniversary! (late!) I have no idea why, but I can't watch your video, when I click on it - i get a message saying that its no longer available =(

I love VeggieGirl TV! I really think it lets your fun and witty personality shine through!

Thanks for the protein powder review. I haven't tried any form of protein powder yet, but I do know that protein is key when recovering from injuries and to allow the body to repair itself. I'm glad you have found a balance that helps you feel your best.

Thank you so much for all the nice comments you leave on my blog. They never fail to bring a huge smile to my face!

Oh, and...

Happy Veganniversary!

do you think that you could put a recipe index for your baking recipes so that i can find them easier? i want to seriously bake up some blondies but i can't remember all the kinds that you have posted and it is frustrating to try to go through all the posts and see them all. do you already have something like this because i don't see one? thanks!!!!

Loved hearing about that protein powder...I've never seen it before but it sounds great! I love protein shakes, but agree that its weird with so many not-so-natural ingredients in most powders!

Happy Vegananniversary!!

So, do you do one gram of protein per body weight in kg or pounds? I like to know what all works for other people. I'm a dietitian and it helps me when working with clients! Thanks so much!

I know you're gluten-free. Do you use a particular 'gluten-free' oatmeal, or do you see that you can tolerate the normal stuff. thanks! lgreen3 at gmail dot com if you want to email me.

Hi Veggiegirl :)
I was hoping to email you but see no address on your blog, so I'm hoping if you can spare the time, you might contact me?
I've been reading since I first came across your blog and you had posted a Veggiegirl TV episode where you talked about having Crohn's disease.
I have an autoimmune disease that is in the same family as crohn's, doctors often refer to it as a "cousin of crohn's". I don't know if you know a lot of people with crohn's (and other autoimmune illnesses) or not and if it's a struggle for you or you are healthily maintaining but I just wanted to say I know how painful it is and how scary and alone it can feel. I would love to chat with you more and learn more about how you are feeling and what you find helpful for feeling well!

Your blog is so fun by the way, you are a total pro! I emailed Sun Warrior about their Rice Protein after seeing it on Kristen's blog but then forgot about it so now that you recommend it (and you're Gluten free and Soy free too) I totally trust it. I ordered some and am totally hoping it's better than Nutribiotic rice powder!

Hugs, Coconutgal

Happy Veganniversary, VG lova. Hope it's been a blissful and peaceful 2 years. Seems like it has :D

Lovely review of the protein powders. I often cringe at the fake-ness of even seemingly natural ones, so this sounded perfect. If I used protein powder. Meh. Still cool though! Thank you :D

That's really good that you're finding out what works for you and your body. I agree with you that (at least for me) I notice a difference when I'm not getting enough protein (mainly I feel tired and hungry).

Anyway, on another (not quite protein) note, I wanted to ask you about your eating raw chocolate. (I know you don't eat soy and that you try to eat a lot of raw foods and I've read your blurb about carob versus cocoa). I've been working on some raw cacao truffles and I'm "flavor testing" right now and I was wondering if you'd let me know what you think if I send some to you. Obviously the cacao is raw and so are all of the ingredients I'm using in them, and obviously I keep the temperature of everything below 115F when I'm making them. If you're at all interested, email me at cloverandclutch@gmail.com.

xoxo

I have to say that I am a big fan of the protein powder I use but am willing to give that one a try.
Happy Vegan Anniversary, you are an inspiration to many.

As you're a journalism major (me too!), let me tell you, you present yourself VERY well. You have a wonderfully candid style that has some great natural snark but none of that faux bitchiness that some reporters try to put off.

Anyway, this protein looks wonderful!

I strength train too, and protein makes all the difference. It's the building block of your body! Haha, you must be the only one of your kind--a vegan who consumes more than 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight!

Hi VeggieGirl! I've never seen those products before, very interesting thank you! I too am trying to build more muscle mass because I've been a ballet (and other forms too) dancer for years and my ectomorphic body type doesn't seem to want to build! I'm not dancing as much anymore, but would like to maintain and build my muscle. Some athletes who mostly strength train need 1.4-1.7 g/kg of protein per day, so at least 1g/kg per day for you would be ideal, especially if your training so hard. Thanks again!

I'm piloting a new site/business and would LOVE your feedback! demo.eatingrd.com
