VG NYC Part Four: A Day Filled with Major Occurrences

**Thursday, June 25th: Never to be forgotten**

On this date, two "major world events" occurred during this recent trip to NYC - one serious event (which had a larger impact on the world) and one fun event (which was more on a personal level).

First, the serious event = the sudden death of musical legend and iconic performer, Michael Jackson, as well as the death of actress Farrah Fawcett.

When we heard the news of both of these deaths, we were quite shocked and saddened - however, Fawcett's death was "expected," since she had been battling cancer for so long. Jackson's death, on the other hand, came at an unexpected (and far too early) date.

No matter what your view or opinion may be of either of these individuals, there is no doubt that both made an impact not just in the entertainment industry, but in the world and culture as a whole. Rest in peace, Farrah and Michael - you will be sorely missed by many, and never forgotten.

And now onto the second event, which was the fun and more personal one. It took place during the afternoon **and** at none other than Pure Food and Wine with more dear friends and family there to witness.

Read on to find out more about this "fun event"...

On Thursday afternoon while walking around the city (and through Rockefeller Center), we stopped in a boutique on 5th Avenue called Teuscher Chocolatier.

And this is where the "fun event" began.

After my dad and I read through all of the chocolate bar labels (yes, yes we did, haha), we purchased the one and only soy-free bar in the entire store to share:

Their 99% Cocoa Extra Dark Bar (which you can read more about and even purchase here).

That is right, ladies and gentlemen - I have become a true, unapologetic, hardcore chocoholic (I prefer to eat 80%-99% dark chocolate - I love the strong stuff and consume it daily now).

You know what I say now?? Carob, schmarob!! Chocolate is where it's at (please forgive the poor grammar, haha).

But this event was just getting started...

That evening, my parents and I met up with Gena and Melissa (two dear friends of the family at this point) at Pure Food and Wine for dinner.

While looking over the menu (which I have become quite familiar with, haha), I realized that I was in the mood for something sweet right away - nothing savory. So, I ordered what I was craving:

Yes, for dinner I enjoyed the Trio Of Dark Chocolate Coated Indian Spiced Ice Cream Treats.

The dessert plate components, from left to right: a Chai Tea Creamsicle, Pistachio Gelato Ice Cream Sandwich, and a Chocolate-Cardamom-Coconut Ice Cream Cone.

I ate the Chocolate-Cardamom-Coconut Ice Cream Cone first, which brought back memories of the Nestlé Drumstick sundae cones (ahh, nostalgia) - so rich, creamy, and delicious.

Next up was the Pistachio Gelato Ice Cream Sandwich, which featured pistachio gelato sandwiched between two thick chocolate cookies, enrobed in a thick chocolate fudge coating, and garnished with pistachios. Wow was this treat ever a ride for the taste buds - incredible.

By the time I got around to the Chai Tea Creamsicle, I had to gobble it up quickly before it completely melted, haha - so no photo (sorry!!). It tasted like vanilla ice cream to me - no "chai essence" whatsoever. Still delectable though!!

I think it is safe to say that I enjoyed my dinner ;-)

After dinner, I headed next door to One Lucky Duck for dessert (yes, more dessert, haha):

I savored a Raw Oreo, which was stuffed with a creamy filling...

...and for the cab ride back to the hotel (sorry for the odd photo - the dessert bag is on a park bench outside of One Lucky Duck, haha), I experienced the Raw Mallomar - heavenly. Period.

Both of these treats tasted eerily authentic - more nostalgia, just like the ice cream cone!!

Everyone should know what an Oreo is; but if you are not familiar with a Mallomar, I suggest reading more about them here.

Needless to say, I was awake until about 3:00am after consuming all this chocolate/caffeine in one day, haha - but it was well worth the lack of sleep.

VeggieGirl the chocoholic...who would have thought that this day would ever come??

I would say that that makes this a noteworthy and fun event to remember and to continue embracing :-)

**Stay tuned for Part Five of the VG NYC post series, which will recap what everyone else ate at Pure Food and Wine that night**

One word: YUM! :) My kind of dinner!

I think what you wrote about Farrah and Michael is spot on. I'm sick of people saying that Michael's death shouldn't be mourned because he was so "weird" and "strange" and "disturbed". Regardless of his past, he's a human; a human who happened to change the way we view performance and entertainment and a human who changed lives with the lyrics in his songs.

Hope you have a marvelous day, dear VG!

When you invited me to come by and view your travel/dining out series, you failed to mention that it would be dangerous. I just gnawed on my computer screen!

Chocolate. Cardamom. Coconut. Three of my all-time fave flavors. Combined in one ice cream cone like that would just send me over the moon!

Thoroughly enjoyed your gastronomical tour of the Big Apple. Thank you.

Thanks for letting me know about your post.
I always thought it was a crime that just about every kind of chocolate in the world has soy in it. I mean, come on! Couldn't they shake it up and just, oh, I don't know, leave out the emulsifiers?
And then can't they just make chocolate, for once, in a plant that for sure doesn't use nuts?
Anyway, I'm happy for you, and I agree: carob schmarob!
